malcolm rathmell sport was formed in january 1991 as a wholesale mail order business in the specialised field of off road trials motor cycles, accessories and spare parts. it is run by malcolm and rhoda rathmell and is a close knit family business with their son martin being appointed as a director in 2002 after working with the business since 1992. daughters sonya and carly are also part of the empire.
the business is primarily operated through a dealer network of approximately 30 of the best uk trials dealers throughout england, scotland, wales and ireland and they have built up an extremely close relationship with all of them.
malcolm rathmell was himself a multi-champion, winning the british trials championship six times between 1971-81 and the world championship in 1974. after retiring from his chosen profession malcolm and rhoda bought and ran a very successful hotel in grassington from 1982-89, before returning to become involved commercially in the sport that they both love. certainly malcolm's name brought them the valuable contact necessary to set up with the best products.
starting as importers of aprilia trials bikes in 1991, they then took on scorpa and now are the successful uk sole importers for the spanish built trials bike sherco. along with being the importers for the complete gaerne off road boots, tommaselli, domino, monty bicycles, clice clothing, nau helmets, ipone oil, kito gloves, n sport 7 trials boots and gloves.
through the years they have developed a key team of riders from the very lowest level to the highest. former riders of mrs include world enduro champion stefan merriman, multi british trials champion steve saunders and now they look after and run two times british trials champion graham jarvis plus a team of national and british championship riders.
the sherco range has now begun to extend into further off road sports. adding to their range of six models of trials bike sherco are now producing enduro and supermotards. the hrd 50, 125 city corp are both available in road or off road versions. mrs have now got the brand new sherco 4.5 4 stroke enduro bike and are expecting delivery of the new 4t, 5.1 & 2.5 bike during 2006.
